Republican Senators are about to get a gift — $140 million worth of district projects — courtesy of Montana Democratic Sen. Max Baucus.

The projects will be added to the Water Resources Development Act reauthorization bill in coming weeks, in order to offset a $140 million water project in Montana that Baucus — chairman of the Environment and Public Works subcommittee on transportation and infrastructure, which has jurisdiction over WRDA — had demanded.

[...Committee Chairwoman Barbara] Boxer’s markup vehicle had a new, $140 million project inserted at Baucus’ request to repair an 85-year-old system that delivers water to towns along Montana’s northern border.

Republicans objected, but Boxer explained that she had made an agreement with Sens. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), the ranking members of the committee and subcommittee respectively, to allow Baucus’ measure and provide a way for [a] Republican project to be “treated equally.”

According to Isakson, the deal essentially means that Republicans on the committee now have $140 million to divide among the projects of their choosing.(Hat Tip to the Club for Growth)

“‘The Enumerated Powers Act’ would require Members of Congress to include an explicit statement of Constitutional authority into each bill that is introduced. It would hold Congress accountable for its actions,” said Shadegg.

How did our guys do? None got the Defender of Economic Freedom award (100%) but three got an A and three got a B (Deal and our two Senators).

Senator Isakson got an 86% and Senator Chambliss got an 85%

I think some of our congressmen need to get some tutoring from Price, Linder or Westmoreland.

What do John Lewis, Cynthia McKinney, David Scott and Jack Kingston have in common? They voted against every amendment. Not the group I’d want to be associating with if I were Rep. Kingston.

The little black guy and the little white guy would be far better off, and so would the GOP, if the party of limited government, fiscal discipline, strong defense and personal responsibility embraced policies based on core values. Black conservatives and white conservatives alike would be far more inclined to stick around if it came toting principle — four years out of four, not one.

If they want to extend the Voting Rights Act, they should apply it to the whole country. Otherwise we should do like Congressman Westmoreland suggested and find some “activist judges” to overturn it.
